At the end of Term 3 we spent a whole week at Baverstock Oaks School, we had an amazing time. Everyone at the school was so friendly and welcoming, we felt like members of the Baverstock family.

We started the week working with the Year 5 and 6 students, after having a discussion with the classes about kindness they worked in pairs to make flower bouquets and kindness cards. The students were able to choose whether to gift their items to local seniors or local volunteers. There was a lot of talk about what a volunteer is and the type of volunteering was in their area. After a fantastic day we went away with over 100 flower bouquets and cards ready to give out in the community.

One group of students wanted their flowers and cards to be given to volunteer firefighters- Ann and I went to visit Beachlands Volunteer Firefighters on their training night, it was lovely to give back to the people who give up so much of their time to help others

This is Katrina who is part of the knitting in Public group, she knits little teddy bears for adults in hospital so that if they are frightened they have something to hold. These wonderful ladies help so many people in the community with their knitting from premature babies to the elderly. We thought they would be the perfect people to give volunteer flowers to.

We visited Summerset by the Park to give the residents some flowers and cards, the residents all seemed very happy with their gifts. Some of the residents even wanted to give the students some biscuits and a card as a thank you!

The next few days we worked with the Junior school students, Years 0-2. These wonderful young children decorated pillow boxes and placed a pocket hug inside. All the children filled the pocket hugs with their hugs before putting them in the boxes. It can be so hard for the students to put a lot of work into something only to give it away, however these children were so incredibly kind and popped the boxes into our bag of kindness ready to be delivered to the houses around the school.

We delivered 208 pillow boxes to the houses around the school, spreading the students kindness in the community.

Our final group of students were the Year 3 and 4 classes. By this point in the week we were getting well known around the school- it was so lovely to walk around and hear the children calling out hello or coming over to give us hugs. At the school crossing outside the school in the morning we would be greeted by name by the senior students, they would ask us what we were making that day. Such friendly and welcoming students, this small act really made our day.

The Year 3 and 4 students designed and made little jigsaw puzzles, they did a fantastic job and really thought about who would receive them. All the puzzles looked superb and were given to local pre schoolers. We visited three preschools- Best Start, Hand and Hand as well as Lil Champs, all three were mentioned by students making the puzzles. We delivered 178 puzzles.

Thank you so much to everyone at Baverstock Oaks School, we really enjoyed our time with you all. We hope you had fun making the gifts, they definitely have made a difference to those who received them.
