The end of Term 3 and the school holidays have been a busy time for our youth volunteers.

Duke of Edinburgh volunteers

We finished our weekly sessions of volunteering by putting together the care parcels. The students worked hard over the weeks from making posters to get donations to making gifts to go inside and decorating the boxes. The final job of putting the items into the boxes was probably the most fun and rewarding- knowing the boxes were going to help local families in need.

All the items laid out ready for the students to place in the boxes.

The volunteers thought very carefully which items to choose to fit the most in the boxes

Visits to Bruce McLaren Retirement Village

Our Youth Board are going to make regular visits to Bruce McLaren Retirement Village to help the residents with all things tech! This time three wonderful youth volunteers sat with some residents to help them with various issues, from changing the wallpaper on their phone to grouping contacts in a an email. It was wonderful to see the young people engaging so well with the older generation. We are looking forward to our next visit in November.

Youth Boards Walk for Fun Event

Finally on Saturday 27th September our Youth Board organised a free community event called Walk for Fun. Families were encouraged to walk the course and complete activities on the way round- hopscotch challenge, egg and spoon, hula hoop and water pistols target shooting. If they completed the challenges they received a certificate and lolly bag at the end.

The group also organised face painting, a photo frame and games at the start/finish line- all free for the community.

As an extra there was a fundraising sausage sizzle and drink sale.

It was a fantastic morning, we were so lucky with the weather the sun came out for us. It was wonderful to see the community coming out to support the Youth Board's hard work.

Here are just a few of the photos taken during the morning.

We would like to thank Kip McGrath Pakuranga for sponsoring the purchase of the BBQ and to New World Howick for their support with organising the food
