Youth Volunteering

We know how hard it is for young people to find suitable volunteering placements, especially when the young person is under 16 years old. We don't want any young person who wants to help others being turned away and instead want to encourage all tamariki and rangatahi to get involved in their communities.

We offer to find placements for any young person looking to volunteer. We also offer colleges a 15 week volunteering programme- either near the school or at the school after school hours. This is mainly aimed at students taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award who need to complete 13 weeks of service for one hour a week but anyone is welcome.

This term we have started a 15 week service programme for 17 students attending Botany Downs Secondary College who are all aiming to complete the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

This week they were asked to design and build a bird feeder using craft sticks, glue gun and twine. They could work in groups or by themselves, it was great to see the students working so well together to design their bird feeders.

All the bird feeders are fantastic! The students all agreed to donate their bird feeders to age care facilities.

We would like to thank Kip McGrath Pakuranga - English and Maths Tutoring for helping to fund this activity.
